RENO, Nev. (AP) — Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid says there’s “not a chance” he’ll leave Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District race without a Democratic candidate.
Reid told the Reno Gazette-Journal in an article published Tuesday that Democrats are talking with a number of potential candidates to replace Republican Rep. Joe Heck, who’s running for Senate.
Four Republicans have announced bids for Heck’s seat, but no prominent Democrats have jumped in.
Former Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller said last week that he wouldn’t run, and state Senate Minority Leader Aaron Ford has also declined to run.
Both were being recruited for the race by top national Democrats.
The swing district includes Henderson and Summerlin in southern Nevada. Democrats have lost the district by relatively wide margins in the past two elections.
