Redbirds win second straight game

METAIRIE, La. – Patience and power at the plate were able to send the Memphis Redbirds to their second straight victory over division-rival New Orleans on Tuesday, downing the Zephyrs 9-0.

Memphis pitching was able to shut down the Zephyrs batters all evening, not allowing a runner to reach third base in the contest.

After plating just one run in the second inning after a bases loaded, no out scenario, the Redbirds broke the contest wide open in the top of the fourth, sending seven runs across the plate.

Memphis sent 10 batters to the dish in inning, however, the Redbirds only recorded one hit in the seven-run frame. The hit turned out to be a grand slam off the bat of Jacob Wilson. The 24-year-old infielder had not appeared in a game for the Redbirds since July 3, instead participating in the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada…
